FAQs

Is the Club only for American or British women?

No, definitely not. Anyone can join. English, however, is the official language of the Club.

Does the Club restrict new member applications to certain times of the year?

No, we welcome new members at any time of the year.

Can I participate in an Activity before joining?

Yes! As a potential member, you are welcome to try an activity, as a ‘try before you buy’ encouragement to become a member of the IWC.

How do I join an Activity group?

Firstly, please fill in an application form online. Then send an introductory email to membership@iwc-lausanne.org to ask about joining an activity before you decide to become a member. The Membership Team will then be able to assist you.

A friend of mine is considering joining the club. Is it okay to bring her to the next Monthly Meeting or Event?

Yes! A Member may invite one or more guests to Club activities or events when space and/or other circumstances permit. As a courtesy, please note that it is the Member’s responsibility to inform the Activities Co-ordinator, or the Event’s Co-ordinator prior to such invitation and to pay for her guest(s) where applicable.

Where do the Monthly Meetings take place?

We have a Clubhouse in the La Maison de la Femme, Eglantine 6, Lausanne 1006, (a twenty-minute walk from Lausanne central train station). Some of our Activities and most of our Monthly Meetings take place at the Clubhouse.

How often does the IWC meet?

Some Activities meet weekly, others monthly and some are annual events. The walking group, Fit & Fun and hiking group try to organise a weekly walk and choose a different area each week. Other groups meet in different venues: art galleries, concerts, and visits to places of historical interest, member’s homes, and of course, restaurants and wine cellars! We also hold a monthly coffee meet up in a local venue.

How does the IWC communicate with its members?

We have a monthly Newsletter which is emailed on the 1st of every month giving details of upcoming events as well as a section welcoming new members. We also use Facebook to post information, and some groups use WhatsApp to let their members know what is going on or to share articles that are relevant to the general interest of the group.

Is there a charge collected to join the Club or an Activity?

Yes, you pay an Annual Membership Fee to become a member of the IWC of Lausanne. Membership will contact you to let you know how much to pay as our Annual Joining Fee is pro-rata throughout the year.

Membership Annual Fee: CHF 155.00

We have many activities ranging from Art Appreciation to Wine Meet ups and Tennis. In addition, we have area coffee meet ups, apĂ©ro meet ups, monthly themed meetings often with a guest speaker at the Clubhouse and a Summer Lunch for our members. Therefore, some of the activities cost a little extra and are not covered by the annual fee e.g., entrance to museums, renting a tennis court or wine tasting.

Can I pay by credit card or foreign currency?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to pay by credit card. The Club prefers payment by CHF directly to our bank account or by TWINT. Membership will contact you to let you know how you can make a payment once you have filled in an application form on the Join Us page. If you are new to the country and do not have a bank account, please contact the Membership Team for help: membership@iwc-lausanne.org

Is it possible to get a job in the IWC?

No, there are no jobs in the IWC. The Club is a fully volunteer run organisation.
